But I will describe what I saw. It was funny because it looked like only half the egg was occupied. Half looked clear yellow, the other half looked a very vibrant orange/red. There was also an obvious air sack, or two. There was plenty of veining on the orange/red side and I could actually see something (dark shadow) kind of floating around in there. It moved when I gently rotated the egg.

This sound ok? On par for around 11 days and nothing concerning? Not entirely sure what to look for. I have seen plenty of candled eggs, but nothing prepares you for doing it yourself.

If you can see veins- then thats good. There should still be plenty of clear area around day 11 - the yellow is the egg white- and the vibrant orange is the yolk- and the vein network should be spreading around the yolk. The shadow is the duckling embryo. Sounds like a good egg to me.

davekrista, I've seen the site before, but lost the link, thanks a bunch!

duckfromoz,
Yes, that sounds right! It was as if you split the egg in half length wise, and one half was yellow and didn't appear to have veins, and the other half was almost red, and that's where all the veining was. It was so weird to watch the little shadow move and the veins around it seemed almost to pulsate. It was amazing to see! So glad it sounds right. That blank yellow half scared me a bit!

I put the egg back in her nest, and I hope when she's done having peas and a bath she'll go right back. She's good about only taking a half hour break a couple times a day and going back. it doesn't hurt that it's 90 outside right now! It's funny, because on cold days I rarely see her, but on warmer days it's like she knows she's alright to go out for a bit.

Thanks!!
