Canker treatments

It won't hurt to give some electrolytes for a couple of days, but it won't cure canker.

There are many treatment options for canker, @KikisGirls has given you a helpful link that lists some treatment options.

First you need to determine if it's canker or wet form Fowl Pox. Both can have lesions inside the beak. Fowl Pox usually has scabs/lesions on the face, comb and wattles as well.

There are many articles/threads about treating canker here on BYC. FishZole (metronidazole, Flagyl) 250 mg divided into 2 doses 12 hours apart daily for 5 days can be used to treat canker. You will want to make sure you keep the water station clean and sanitized.

Thanks everyone I'll look at the links.

I was looking at the PetSmart website and searched for fish sole and here's what came up: ↑

Do you have a Tractor Supply site near by or a mom and pop "feed" store?
We have TSC and a feed store. TSC didn't have what we needed and the feed store had copper sulfate but it was the size of your average food bag. WAY too much for what we're using it for. We went to a fish store and they had a product that has 70% metronidazole and 30% excipients. It's the closest to fish zole I could find. Are excipients safe for chickens to consume?

More than likely you will need to order it online - this is what you are looking for "Metronidazole"

That's true but we don't have the time it will take to ship it here. Just caught another hen in my flock with canker. Can you look at my post above and tell be if the ingredients are safe for chickens?

I have no idea what/which excipients would be safe. Generally, if I understand correctly they are "fillers" or "bulking agents" which are used to form the medication. I would think that most of those ingredients are considered "inert". Do the best you can to research the term and make an informed decision.

Since you are seeing another hen with similar symptoms, then you may want to separate them both, clean and sanitize your water station that your flock is drinking from Canker is contagious so it's important to try to keep everything as clean as you can.
