She / He is large , buff colored and very sweet . ( It ) hatched in early July . About a month ago the comb and wattles turned bright red and wow did those waddles grow ! The mother is a buff Orpington and daddy is a LF Cochin .
I looked at your pic first, before I read it, and I thought, "Gee, that looks like a Buff Orp, but with Cochin feathers!"
I'm thinking it's a hen. Often, when the comb/wattles turn bright red, that means the pullet is ready to lay. Have you noticed this chicken squatting yet?
I can definitely understand why you'd be confused.....
She looks like a POL (point-of-lay) hen. It may take another month or more to see that first egg depending on weather. She's pretty and the boys are gonna love that rump!
