I'd love to have some idea of what I have. My rescue guys are BIG, and mainly white with red combs and yellowish greenish legs. I was going back and forth on whether they were truly golden on top or whether they were just weathered, but they have been loosing feathers lately and the feather are definitely bicolored, white with golden tips. So they have light golden saddles. One has a few looong tail feathers, and both have long blankety feathers ever their backs. Very handsome, even if they are no breed in particular. They both are rather heavyset.

I will try to post a picture at some point but it means getting my husband involved, so it may be a while.

How cool of you to rescue roosters! [IMG]

I hope I can help you ID them. It's hard to say without a picture, but it sounds a little like red sex-link males. They are big heavy birds with big red combs and golden backs...

But they have the wrong leg color and don't usually have very long tails. Long tailed breeds are usually light bodied.

The color you're describing could be anything from red pyle:

    To just a brassy white:

    Anything look familiar? [IMG]

Thanks for taking on the challenge! Yes, the brassy white is the right idea. Big and heavy, unfeathered legs and big red combs. I always assumed it was a leghorn, just because someone suggested it, but they look much chunkier than the pictures I've seen.

And here is a smily because my seven year old is begging me to put one here because he likes talking about our roos [IMG]

Who can blame him? Roosters are cool! [IMG]

Leghorns do have long-ish tail feathers, but they also have yellow legs and are usually quite aggressive. They also have white earlobes. You can see the white earlobe clearly on the second picture.

The earlobe color can help in figuring out which breed you have. Most brown egg layers have red earlobes, while white egg layers have white earlobes. Which I think is kinda neat.

The pictures I posted are from Feathersite.com which has thousands of pictures of hundreds of breeds. It's a really cool page and amazing to see all the different breeds. You could browse through that and see what you can see.
