Hi, I'm a crazy cat lady. I have 10 inside. New Year's Day I look out to my back yard & see 4 chickens. They found the black oil sunflowers seeds the birds dropped. They roosted in my pines at night next to my bedroom window. What a wake up call!!!! After 5 days I bought them chicken food, put an ad in the Penny Power for found chickens with no response. I was deciding whether to keep them. I also have many flowers beds which is what I do all spring & summer. I ordered a little chicken coop online. It came 2 days before the blizzard, my nephew put it together that night. They next day a niece & her 2 boys helped me catch them & put them in their coop. Got 22" that Saturday. I left them in for 4 days like I read you should. I had dug paths across the back yard to feed the birds & outside cats & chickens. When I let them out they were quite surprised to see all that snow & stayed to the paths. I had to catch them for the next 2 nights to put them to bed but since then they're hanging around their house and I just have to shussle them in. I have a rooster that I think is a black copper marans and is named Archie, a black hen that I think is an ancona that is named Regina (Reggie), a tan hen that I think is a brahma that's named Betty and a gray hen that I think is a brahma that's named Veronica. I'm already thinking of where to put the fence so they stay out of my flowers. They are very entertaining to both me and my cats. Why do they stand on 1 foot every once in awhile? I've been getting 1 tan egg most days. Today I had a surprise when there was a pale green one. Which one would have laid the green?
