Does anyone on the forum own one? I have visited the Cavalier Rescue USA website several times and have applied to adopt one months ago. I have researched the breed and am aware of the health problems these dogs may develop. I don’t know why, but I am so partial to these little dogs (maybe the sweet spaniel face) and I’d love to have one of my own. If you have one, can you tell me about their personality and any health problems they have and where you found him/her? I’ve called my local animal shelter and told them I am interested in adopting one. Thanks!

Good luck finding one. They're highly sought after. We looked for one for a long time but could only find "breeders" that had them. And those folks wanted a TON of money for them. We're talking like $1800.

We might look in to them again someday but we found a couple of really loving beagles at the pound. ($50/ea) So we got them instead. Other than needing lots of exercise and being stubborn (harder to train), they've been great little dogs; full of love, always want to be with you, no problem at all with kids, snuggle-sauruses, etc. Not to mention, beagles are easy to get.

Give other breeds a chance, you might be surprised at which dog you really like once you interact with them. Their individual personality is more important than their breed. My cousin has a pitbull mix that is a luv bug and insists on being a lap dog, even at 96lbs. My sister in-law has a schipperche that she loves, I can't stand the dog. I also don't like my sisters black lab, or her beagle (sadie). I think her beagle was badly abused because sadie runs away from almost everybody. And my beagles run to everybody. So it's really the individual dogs personality that matters.

Good luck.

On edit: check out the "Find the perfect Dog" feature. It will ask you a series of questions then suggest dogs that fit your answers. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

I got my Italian greyhounds from this breeder, Kara Landon . She is no longer breeding the IGs but she was breeding the king charles. I do not know if she is still breeding the king charles. If she is you could not do better. I was so impressed with her and her facilities (No backyard breeder here). I would shoot her an email and see if she is still working with them.

I'm not the kind of person that has to have a pure breed. I have a cocker/pom mix that I would love to have cloned. I'm looking to RESCUE one. I would not buy one to contribute to puppy mills. And it is the personality of the Cavalier that I want - not specifically the breed...
