changing food

Because these are my first chicks I don't know when to change over from starter food to adult food. my chicks are 4 weeks now and I know now is too soon but I don't know when. I read that they stay on it until they start laying eggs , is this true ? Any help would be great.

I was told that you feed them chic crumb for first 6 weeks then grower pellets till laying age, then layer pellets/mash
