Very new to chickens. Got my first 5 in December 2013 when i moved on to an acre and a half in the country. Never in my wildest dreams did i ever think i would cry over a danged ole chicken but man o man. When i lost my first rooster, Benny the banty roo, i cried like i had just lost one of the most important people in my life. Broke my heart into a million pieces.[IMG]Who knew ? Not me !
At this time i have 29 chickens.EE, OE, BCM, Lav Orp, Austr, D'Uccle Bantam x EE, Leghorn mix, Red Sex Link
I stumbled on BYC while researching about my first chickens.
My place in the country has a coop that was in very bad shape. I have since redesigned the thing at least 6 times. Every time i see a new idea that looks like it would work for me i hit the door running. I never thought at 54 yrs old i would be raising kids but, i am raising an 8 yr old grand daughter, 2 Lab mix dogs, Belle and Kosmo, 29 chickens, and 3 parakeets. I would love to have a fainting goat and i may expand in to turkeys soon but i think that will be enough for me.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Really enjoyed your intro - many, many folks on here feel the same when loosing one of the flock, especially their favorites. One bycer used to post videos of her fainting goats - they were hysterical. I think as they mature they don't faint anywhere near as often but, I'm told their legs shake a little . Darn! Goats in general are very amusing and as I understand great escape artists. Hope to see you around on some of the other threads.[IMG]
