We hatched one chick our first time with the incubator. The chick had HUGE feet she got the name sasquach. Sasquach was the only chick that hatched. She was really lonely. We got 4 Ameracana chicks and put with sasquach. The ameracana chicks were unhealthy and slowly died one by one. We thought that sasquach had been pecking them to death so she stayed in a cage by herself for several weeks. We had a second batch of eggs hatch with the incubator. This time it was a success and we hatched 17 chicks. After they got older we decided to put sasquach with them and see if she would still peck others to death. She did fine and wasn't hurting the other chicks so we left her. Since then she has taken to every chick she can find. A third round with the incubator brought us 9 more chicks. We have three brooders right in a row. Sasquach walks along the side of all the brooders and watches over the chicks. If some of the chicks are cold she hops into the brooder with those chicks and lays on them and spreads her wings over them until they are warmed up. Has anyone had a chick become a broody hen?
