Well A adolescent hen decided to try to hatch chicks in the woods. I didn't know until earlier I heard peeping and went to investigate. She hatched most of the eggs and was walking around (IN THE OPEN) with them.I caught the babies and put them in a brooder set up with a light, food, water and they seem to be doing pretty good.I didn't put the mom in with them because she is wild and i don't want the chicks to act like her. ANYWAYS...She left an egg behind that was just pipping. The ants found it and were about to start eating it when i found it.They weren't fire ants but some black kind. But i brought the little egg inside and had to open it up to get all the ants out.But i have the chick in my incubator,Until he finishes drying. From what i can tell he has absorbed all of his yoke and seems perky. So do you think iv done what i can do or is there anything else I can do for him?
just put him with the others in a day or so do this at night and he will be accepted as one of them by then he will eat and drink besure and dip his beak in the water and show him where the feed is
buck- you're fine with what you did. Luckily, he'd absorbed his yolk; if not, I don't think there would have been much you could do. He's very lucky you found him when you did!
UPDATE>>> Billy buck jr is doing GREAT ! He survived the night and is finally getting his legs to stop wobbling..LOL Looks like he is going to make it! I put him out with the other chicks and they excepted him and he is now learning how to eat and drink!
