Chick color vs. mature color

    I keep trying to guess what my chicks are going to look like when they're all grown up. Especially the two EEs. One is a very smudgy brown/auburn/gray, and the other is tan with stripes and eyeliner on her head. The feathers that are erupting on the smudgy chick are almost gray (blue?!). The other one is stripey.

    When I look back at pictures of my old chicks, their first feathers don't match their mature color (they matured solid, but were very uneven as chicks--perhaps for camoflage).

    Does anybody know how to tell what color a chick is going to be???
