I recently found my two day old chick, Chickpea, dead.
Her body seemed to be flattened and she was lying on her side with her neck curved round to one side. Her eyes were shut and she looked peaceful.
Eight hours earlier, she was absolutely fine, and her mother seemed to accept her, calling her when she strayed from the nest.
When I looked at them, the mother had moved places and the chicks weren't underneath her anymore as they had been almost all the time before then.
There was absolutely no blood, she just looked like she was sleeping, but she looked flattened and her neck curved to one side.
They are in a warm environment with food and water.
What are some likely reasons for this death?

So sorry to hear about your loss. [IMG] Chickpea might have been stepped on by accident. Sometimes a chick gets trampled by mom if it runs under her feet while she is walking. Another chicken could've stepped on her too. Another possibility is that she choked. Some other things could've happened but these are more likely. Again really sorry about your loss. [IMG]
