I brought the chick in earlier today as it was not looking right. Not eating or drinking and the 2 mommas had almost covered her in the straw etc that is in their brooder.

The chick died about an hour later. It looked like wry neck, but man, she went fast. Even after I got some electrolytes with vitamin E and some yogurt in her.

My question is, should I replace the chick that died, the mommas have 2 others that are looking okay at this point. I do have 8 chicks in a different brooder that hatched about the same time. Do they know they are missing one? And would they accept another chick?

They will be 2 weeks old on Sunday.

If the chicks are over 72 hours old, they will not be likely to see a hen as anything other than a big scary something that may want to eat them. And the hens will likely see them as something that will threaten the resources available to their own chicks. Just let things be. It is what it is. When hatching chicks, there will be losses at some point. It's just how it is.
