Chick grit

Can I just put like a lid full of sand into their brooder for the grit? Here's a picture of the sand I have. Also how old do chicks have to be before you introduce it? I have four, 1 week old, Isa browns.

Welcome to BYC...

You can, or you can just dig some dirt along your drive or yard. I even use the stuff you get at the big box hardware store for weight and traction in your pickup trucks....

Your own sand is better IMHO, because it gets them use to your germs and bugs...
