Chick grit

    Should I use chick grit in the brooder for young chicks . Do they need it.

    If you're only giving them their starter feed, they do not need it. It also isn't required for soft foods like eggs, yogurt, bananas, ect. When you introduce things like fruits, veggies and insects is the time to start giving them grit :)

    Person at the feed store told me I can use sand What do you think?

    Yep, sand is an excellent grit. And probably much cheaper in the long run then the little bags of chick grit you can buy :)

    Do you put the grit or sand in the food? Or just make it available in their pen/coop?
