Hi! My name is Amy and I am new to the forum! I am just hatching out my first chicks. 4 of my silkies have already hatched (yesterday evening was day 21) and I took 3 out and put them in my brooder. My question is regarding my 4th. She is still wet and she hatched about 15 hours ago. I think I might have filled the water reservoir in the bottom a bit too high and that is why she won't dry off. Could I carefully blow dry her and then put her in the brooder?

Thanks!
Amy

Hi Amy,

Are you sure she's not just "sticky" and not wet? I wouldn't do anything but fluff her up with a towel. You could overheat her very easily with
a blow drier.

Hi amy I wouldn't blow dry the chick I would try and soak up some of the water out of the bottom and leave it alone for awhile and see how she does.

Thanks for the suggestions! I ended up leaving her in for another couple of hours, but she still wasn't fluffing up and I was going to be gone late. So I took her out and rubbed her down a bit (she was mostly sticky, not as wet as I thought) and put her under the brooder light. She looked like she wasn't doing too well, not very strong and not at all fluffy, so I wasn't sure she would make it through the night. I put my dad on "Charlie" watch (my friend named her) he checked her every few minutes like a good mother hen

Anyway, I got back a few hours later and went to the brooder and thought "Which one is Charlie?!" She is all fluffy now and stronger! She is soooo cute - she likes to sleep on her back!

Amy
