Is it possible to tell the gender of a 6 day old chick by looking at the top of the beak. Will roosters have a more spikey look and hens smooth? Has anyone ever heard of this? Anyone have any idea what gender this one is?

Never heard of that before. You will be able to tell in a few weeks, cockerels combs develop much faster than pullets. Depending on the breed, you may be able to sex them by feather development. You may have different comb types that you're seeing the difference.
