I have a 6 week old who is acting fine, but I noticed a few minutes ago that s/he has a hard lump on the right side of the neck ~ kinda of towards the collar bone (on a human). Is that the crop, if so ~ what do I do?

Thanks everyone!!!

yes the crop is always hard after eating
what has the bird been on?
has she had access to grass?
if so and the lump is still hard in the morning then have to flush

also take a eye dropper and fill with olive oil sweet oil any kind of cooking oil
and give it two eye dropers full down the throat go to the back of the throat and it will go into the crop

then massage the crop to put the oil into the hard mass

check on here for sour crop
impacted crop as I have listed the crop flush and surgery

email any questions

Thanks for your help...they are kept in a crate with shavings. Maybe got a shaving by mistake?

Thanks for your help. I'll do some more reading on it.

I noticed that you posted this after 9p your time. Chickens fill their crops at night and digest the food while they sleep. I'm willing to bet that the crop will be empty in the morning.

If it's still full and/of the chick smells bad from the beak, you've got either an impacted or sour crop. But I bet yours is fine.
