Hello. I recently saw one of my chickens eat a piece of glass that was probably the size of a food pellet. I have read through every forum on here, but people don't often post follow ups. Has anyone had this happen? I just need to know if the chicken was fine or not. How long does it take for something to travel through the system? I'm a nervous wreck over here.

I've given lots of grit, oyster shell, and some treats as "padding." Just put some fresh water in there too.

Thank for any help!

If you search "crop surgery" there are some good pics of how to clean out a crop. I don't think that's something you'd want to have them process through thier body. I'm not a pro but I'll try n bump this up so one of em see it

It's been 2 days and she seems just fine! I'm not sure how long it would take to pass through. I felt her crop today and it felt very full. I'm so new to this though, I don't have a solid understanding of a healthy crop vs unhealthy one. Going to check and make sure it is emptied out in the morning.

She has laid an egg each day since eating the little piece of glass. I was trying to inspect to see if the glass had passed through, but it's rained so much here that my whole yard is just mud!

Thank you so much for checking in with me. I knew the people on here would be compassionate. :)

I just saw my chicken easily swallow a piece of broken glass...it was about the size of a pellet and part of a thick, clear pyrex bowl.
I am interested to know how your chicken fared...my gut tells me if they can handle oyster shell, ricks and I have heard small metal pieces, that she will be ok.
