Well I got my chicks today. I think I'll make this thread into my chicken blog. I'll post updated pics of the ladies and photos of the coop.


We have 4 chicks total. Two Barred Rocks and two Sussex Reds.

Oh they are so sweet!!! I enjoy the pictures.....makes waiting for my babies a little better!!

What are you using for bedding in your brooder?? I am still putting mine together. My babies are due next Thurs!!

The bedding is wood pellests. My local feed store uses them for all their chicks. They say it's very good.

Get your next size tub ready, they will out grow that in about 15 minutes

Walmart has one for about 15$ that will last a little longer if your looking... (all learned from very recent experience)

I think you have about 2 weeks with that tub... They will start making a mess and if they feel croweded, may start to peck on each other.

I started my 6 in a fish tank... 20 gallons, I think? It lasted a week. They grow insanely fast!

I might transfer them to the bathtub next. Do you think that will last the duration?
