I came home tonight to find my chicken laying on the floor of the run with her legs tense and straight pushed out behind her. SHe had been fine when I was home for lunch five hours earlier. I don't know what it could be :( After looking her over here is what is going on.

-not acting sick, still can put head up and look around
-drinking water and ate six mouthfuls of scrambled eggs
-wet butt like she has liquidy poo
-if I try and put her on her feet to walk her toes curl under and she tries to walk backwards but you can feel her moving the muscles in her legs
-legs spread out behind her very tense and one of her back toes is quivering
-normal behavior up until tonight

Any help would be welcomed. I hate to see her like this.

This is not a diagnosis, but I would look at Mareks disease or wry neck. With wry neck they can have a number of odd neurological symptoms such as walking backwards or in circles, besides the neck twisting sideways or up/down. In Mareks they can lie with both feet behind, forward, or one forward, one behind. Here are some links for you (be sure to look at all 18 pictures in first link):

She doesn't look like any of the pictures. When I went to check on her last she tried to move we legs under her which seems like an improvement from earlier.

Could she have been exposed to something in her environment such as lead paint chips or lawn insecticides that could have caused these symptoms? I'm glad it doesn't look like Mareks to you at this point. One thing to do for her is to give her poultry vitamins in her water, or 3 drops of PolyVisol baby vitamins by mouth daily.

When I checked on her after dinner she was actually using her legs and walking around. She did have a few piles of total liquid poop around her but she was clucking and walking about. We will see how she is in the morning and I will work on getting her some vitamins this weekend.

I don't think she could have gotten in to any insecticides or lead paints, the run is super enclosed. I will keep a close eye on her behavior tomorrow. Thanks for the input and help!
