My Rhode Island Red hen's comb is starting to turn purple after my other chicken bit her on the comb. I kept trying to stop the other chicken but she wouldn't stop pecking and then at the end bit her really hard. We is the other hen trying to peck the Rhode Island Red? Thx in advance.

Is the comb bleeding? If she is being hurt I would separate her. Is there any chance that the purple could be frostbite? Have these chickens been together long or for a little while? Sorry for all of the questions. Welcome To BYC!

The comb is not bleeding and I don't think it would be frostbite because I live in a place with no snow. They've been together since they were young:6 months.

The comb is probably not turning purple from being pecked, but from something else. Have you wormed your birds before? I would separate her if possible, a neosporin to stop the bleeding would be great. Keep in mind that comb injuries are often not a bad as they look.
