Well, we finally have property here in the beautiful state of Texas. The Hubs knew how bad I wanted chickens, so here we are. He designed and built the coop himself, with some help from the kids and I. We put linoleum on the floor for easy cleaning. There is a fully opening door in the back for making cleaning easy, and a big door on the side to access the nesting boxes. There are two windows on the back, and one on the front for ventilation. We put insulation under the metal roof to hopefully keep it cooler inside. We have seven hens, and one rooster. We are very thankful for this as we could have ended up with four of each! We have found this website very helpful in our building of the coop and our raising of chickens. The bottom picture shows wood chips in the coop, but we have switched to sand and have found it much easier to deal with. Also, there is now white framing around the outside of the coop, to give it that nice barn look.
