I have an old coop given to me by a friend, metal pipe frame with chicken wire on five sides.
The floor is open. I'm concerned about preditors digging under the fence to get to my chickens. I would like to put chicken wire under the coop extending about a foot on each side to keep any preditor from digging. I liked the idea of using construction sand to cover the chicken wire on the ground. I'm wondering about cleaning up the poop on the sand. Any comments for this tenderfoot chicken raiser would be helpful.

If you have a sand floor, all you'd need to do is rake it to clean it. You should put a layer of gravel under the sand though, this will help keep it dry. The sand is a good filter, but the gravel helps it to drain.
