Life on Lucky Chi Ranch is always ever-changing... with our 501 3(c) Dog Rescue, Lucky Chi Dog Rescue, we have an ever revolving door of foster dogs coming in from the local shelter...

Doggies, goats, chickens, and a pig are always making life on the ranch happy... plus with the addition of 7 new chicks!!!

In order for us to be prepared for the growth of the flock.. soon to be 11 full sized hens we decided to upgrade with another coop. Our set up before were two coops purchased off of Amazon... and served their purpose. I really enjoyed seeing all the cute coop designs on Backyard Chickens. I fell in love with the idea of the playhouse converted into the coop idea.. Cost efficient and already possessing architectural qualities that I appreciated, I was on the hunt for a playhouse. Found one on OfferUp and brought it home to upcycle!

Here is the timeline of all the mini updates that occurred!

Bringing home the playhouse... Hubby got it for me as Valentine's Day Gift... Swoon!

Then came the little modifications while new chickies also used the remodel site as a temporary brooder... Goals were to cover the windows with plywood to keep drafts out. Living in SoCal doesn't make it necessary to create snow resistant coops, but I wanted to make sure wetness and strong winds could be deterred.

Another goal was to increase the number of boxes in the coop. Used the old coops boxes as well as some newly purchased from a feed store to add that nesting space. I also included a basic staircase, roosting pole ladder, and some cute decorative accents to personalize the new dwelling.

Once coop was constructed to needs it was ready to set the coop in place amongst the others... in the now Chicken Village! Excited for all of the chickies and big chicks to love their new home sweet home!

cavemanrich Your coop is also just as amazing! Pretty cool how we can come up with ways to convert and upcycle items to fit the needs of our gals!
