we just found one of our chickens trapped under an overtuened PLASTIC flower pot. she has been gone since FEBRUARY 25, & my hubby found her today because we are planting in our pots. we thought she had been snatched by a bird of prey, but here she is!!! i have never heard of such a thing, but moving forward we will be very careful w/ these & other things that can be turned over & trap little animals. i feel so awfu! other than weight loss & messed up feathers, she's actually ok.

Are you saying that she has survived? That is amazing. I would give her water with electrolytes and vitamins, and no food until she has gotten fully re-hydrated. Then give her some food later on with water mixed in. Wishing her good luck to survive.

yes, she is alive, looks rough but is acting TOTALLY normally. she wants to eat, but we thought, too, like w/ chicks that aren't drinking enough, that her crop could get clogged. THREE AND A HALF WEEKS UNDER A 2 GALLON FLOWER POT, i s*** you not, we though she got nabbed by a hawk! she's drinking, pruning & wandering like a champ!

our other 3 chickens seem to not remember her, but she is following them around as usual. i am in shock, i have never heard of such a thing. i'll update this in this thread as she recovers (i hope!)!

I've had sometime similar happen twice to me but only it was with a plastic tote. The first time it happened, a chicken stood on the edge and the tote flipped over her and caged her. She was missing for 2 days, before I picked up the tote and was surprised to see a hen under it! It happened a week later and thankfully I realized it would keep happening and removed the feeding tote.

We had one little bantam roster get trapped in an almost empty metal garbage can that contained scratch grains, his favorite. He jumped in there unbeknownst to us, and the lid was placed on. The next morning, I just happened to take off the lid for some odd reason, and there was little Sarge, lethargic, blue, and unable to stand. After feeling awful, and nursing him for half the day, he began to revive. After that I became paranoid, and did head counts every evening. Sarge lived another 4 years after that, giving us a lot of joy.
