My millieflur bantam was found dead yesterday. She was my tamest chicken. [IMG]I miss her so much. I think a weasle or ferret did it. Are they dangerous to normal sized chickens because if so I don't know what to do.

A weasel would have killed more than one bird and would have most likely only eaten the head. The MO seems to point to a opossum. I think a hawk would have eaten the breast (but not the head?). A raccoon is another possibility though likely would have killed more than one also. Just my humble opinion.

a hawk or owl either one would have eaten the breast so i'm going for the predator being a possum

I've heard in my neck of the woods opossum eat the tail end, coon eat the breast. Maybe it was spooked out of the cage before it could do any more damage?

I think so. My friend saw a brown thing run away after being chased by my dog.

Fixs the coop & set a trap. What ever it was will be back now that he knows where it can get dinner.
