Chicken Egg Bound PLEASE HELP!

Here is what I did, and it worked...
Get a bucket of hot water, not too hot to shock her or burn her because she will need to soak in it for about 15 mins. While soaking try sticking your finger up and gently massaging the vent. When you are done soaking, use olive oil to message the vent area (make sure you get some in it).
Make a mixture of tums, warm water, and olive oils. Put it in a dropper or syringe and give to her daily or twice a day. Do the soaking every 2 days.
My hen was back to normal with in a week and I even noticed a huge difference the next day.
Good luck!

I just read the sad news I'm so sorry

Everyone reading this should be very careful when advising someone to bathe a critically ill bird. Snowflake was *very* sick and giving her a bath would have killed her for sure. The best way to treat an egg bound bird is to stabilize it, give it fluids and calcium, then stick it in a warm bathroom full of steam.

Very sorry to hear what happened, She was a very pretty bird.

I believe we had a similar issue with one of our rhode island hens. She was lethargic in the yard and wouldn't eat or poop, she just stood in the corner by herself. We also thought she was egg bound and did the soaking thing and checked for 'blockages' but couldn't find any. If it should happen again you might try feeding olive oil in a dropper( we tried the baby medicine syringes but they were harder to use in my opinion) in small amounts throughout the day in case they are impacted and also water with Epsom salt in it( in small doses of course) just in case they ate something they shouldn't have. It's what we did for 'Rose',It took nearly a week of constant care but she recovered and is doing fine now.
