Earlier today my hens were free ranging and I took a rag out of my pocket to shake it out. When I started to shake it, three hens ran up, neck feathers standing up, and began ferociously fighting the rag. After a blur of flapping wings and darting beaks, the hens were wondering why this strange chicken wasn't backing down, and I was not wondering why I had a large peck blister on my hand, I knew how it got their. I shook it again later to see what would happen, and one of the hens started squawking, sort of like the squawk they do in the egg song. After all this, I still don't know what exactly was going on in their minds.
