chicken halks

If hawks are a problem in your area, the only way to protect your chickens from them is to keep them in enclosed runs with with some kind of netting or wire covering the top of the runs. If you free range your chickens, you will lose some of them to hawks.

I have a Doberman that chases the hawks away. Otherwise, I have to agree. They need some kind of top over the pen. I have in the past had a pheasant pulled through the netting by a hawk, and occasionally the great horned owls are a problem.
