Less of a question more a share.

I have three chickens, they lay different shade/colour of egg so it's pretty easy to tell who laid what.

I collect the eggs every morning. Yesterday I went out and there was 4 eggs. Tandoori had treated us to an extra.

Today I went out and there was 5 eggs. Looks like the other two (Tikka and Tuscan) decided to join in!

I did some reading yesterday, and while it seems impossible, it sometimes happens so I shrugged it off as a once off but now all three have done it in the space of 36 hours.

It's so strange, I wonder what could cause all three to go into hyperdrive.

Sometimes younger hens will do this. Their bodies are still trying to figure this whole laying thing out, and their hormones will sometimes cause two yolks to be released instead of one. Depending on the time-frame, this can lead to a number of things including a lot of double-yolkers, shell-less eggs, or two eggs within a day. After a while, their bodies will get it right and they'll lay one single-yolked egg a day more often than not.
