I have a new flock of 5 girls. Juliet is the dominant, and last addition to the flock. She hasn't really bonded with the others, who are very tight, but she goes berserk when I walk outside, and anytime I'm out there gardening, etc. They're either in their coop/run, or a mobile run where they can safely forage. But when I'm there, all she does is frantically pace and squawk at me. When I start to walk into the house, she ramps up the squawking.

    Insights?

And I do take her out daily to hold/pet her. She runs from me, then seems to tolerate being handled, so I'm not sure that's what she wants.

She's probably just kind of bonded to you....until she makes her place with the other birds. Just give it some time. Ignore her, unless you pet all the chickens.
