    Hello -
I'm brand new here. Curious if anyone has any experience with Sierra Madre, CA (near Pasadena) zoning ordinances for a few backyard chickens? I'm thinking of 4 to start. Also interested in seeing if there's a local backyard chicken "community" to connect with for advice, etc .particularly in regards to the local environment (hot) and predators since I'm just starting out.
    Thanks in advance!

While it isn't against the municipal code of Sierra Madre to keep chickens you will likely discover that your lot may effectively prevent you from keeping them. Note I haven't checked the zoning code which may also make building the housing for them problematic as well.

Here is the municipal code section dealing with poultry: http://library.municode.com/HTML/16627/level2/T6_C6.08.html#T6_C6.08_6.08.010 .

    Thanks Fox!
I called city hall today and they confirmed what's in the code. Up to 24 chickens are allowed as long as they are at least 50 feet away from any dwelling (including illegal garage conversions but not non habitable structures) and 100 feet from the road. Works for me.
