Hello. Found a weird thing in my coop yesterday. One of my chickens is laying half skin half shell eggs.I thought maybe it was because it was her first egg but today we found the same thing. Anyone see this before? We are new to having BYC. We have one other layer out of 11 hens so far and her eggs are perfect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to our community. Redsoxs has given you a great link that will help, but from my experience, new layers can take a while before they get their plumbing sorted out and its not much to worry about.

Best wishes

Hi and welcome to BYC! Yep, pullets sometimes lay pretty weird eggs at first! It will most likely stop as she gets older. Good luck and thanks for joining us!

I know new layers can present some unusual eggs but, have never seen any like your picture. Is that egg cut in half or did it come out that way?

Ditto DD.
That is wild....never seen one like that posted either.
Soft part looks wet and solid like jello, rather than the typical softshell egg.
And same bird has laid another just like it?

Have you broken it open to see what's inside?
Would love to see more pics, both intact and opened.
