By the end of April I will have 24 standard and 4 bantams what size coop is needed. I plan on attaching a run 12x16. The current coop and run I have holds 8. plan on building 1 large enough for all of them.

Thank youThey should have a minimum of 4sqft each, for 28 that’s 112sqft. I think that’s just a bit bigger than a 10x11 coop. Your run would need increasing a little, especially if they’re living 24/7 in there, they need a minimum of 10sqft (with your current plan, they’d have 6sqft) 280sqft in your case, off the top of my head that’s around a 10x28 space, but you can obviously switch that around as long as you keep 280sqft within the run.
The total square footage including coop and run would be 390sq ft? The coop will be 10x11x6h.They should have a minimum of 4sqft each, for 28 that’s 112sqft. What does this mean in feet by feet? The current coop and run I have holds 8.
I'm building a larger coop plan on 10x11 with attached covered and wrapped (When needed) run. The run will have wire in ground for predator protection. The current run set up is covered and I wrapped the sides with 6mil plastic when the tempeture started dropping. On the new run if i wanted to permanently protect the sides half way would you recommend top or bottom halfWhat does this mean in feet by feet?
Pics and dimensions please?
Coop and run space should calculated separately,
especially if you live where the snow/wind/cold might keep them in the coop for days on end.
Unless your run has a solid roof and wind blocked walls, that can really help.
If your run is totally predator proof and weather proof,
then you could calculate coop and run together.
Actually there's really no hard number for square footage per bird,
too many variables. The 4/10 'rule of thumb' is bare minimum.
Here's good a article by RR about Space, a must be for all chicken keepers.
