Chicken newbie

We have 8 hens: 3 silkies, 1 frizzle, 2 sizzles, 1 showgirl, and 1 not sure if breed. Looking to get a silkie rooster to have chicks this summer. Live in upstate ny and have learned everything the hard way so far. 3 kids who enjoy all the excitement they bring!

It's generally a buyers market for cockerels - get your 20 posts in a hurry by greeting new members on here - just like I am doing now.

I have seen really nice roosters offered on buy,sell,trade at great prices - especially silkies, and even on the free animals needing homes section. You can pretty much pick and choose tho they may need to be shipped to your location.

Most people aren't allowed to have roosters in their area, and one rooster can handle 10 hens or so, so there is no need to have several roosters. People don't want their beauties to end up in the soup pot.
