i have 8 boxes ready for hens. They are just starting to lay, but don't use boxes. Use the floor under boxes. What to do?
Fake egg?

This is common in new layers. Baiting the nests (placing false eggs, holf balls, etc) helps because their instinct tells them if another chicken laid in a given place that place is a safe and desirable place to lay their eggs too. The other consideration though, is sometimes our idea of what makes a good and accessible nest Box is not necessarily going to be perceived that way from a chicken's point of view. A photo or 2 of the interior of cupe showing the nest boxes can help us to look at it from your chickens perspective and perhaps identify some changes that might make them more inviting to your birds

fake eggs work great, but make sure thye are the color of your hens eggs, not some random color
Chickens don't know whay color egg they lay or care about them matching the bait egg.

actually many hens know the difference between the brown egg they lay and the white egg some other hen laid. my hen will sit on any brown egg but no white eggs allowed
