We have 16 chicks on their way from Meyer Hatchery. They shipped today and are scheduled to arrive Wednesday. We're ready and on call for Wednesday.

In my excitement, I started reading reviews of different hatcheries and scared myself silly with all the horror stories of dead on arrival or day after chicks.

So, I am now very curious. Of the 16, how many will be DOA or die within 4 weeks? 14 is my swag. Kind of morbid, I know.

Also, of the 16 (sexed by Meyer) how many will be Roo's? 1 is my swag based on their 90% guesstimate.

16 will survive and 2 will be cockerels. [IMG] I had to fight my pessimistic nature to type that. Good luck.

:( 13 of 16 arrived alive today at 1000 Central. Lost a Buff, EE, and the meal maker (I think). Heat pack was still warm, so not sure if it was the cold or trampling. Could be a lot lot worse. Very excited to have the ones that made the trip.

I dipped (or tried to dip) all their beaks in the water, but all they want right now is the food.

I have some coming in June, I'm hoping I get a broody so I can give her some fake eggs that will 'hatch' on arrival date [IMG]. I feel for the little guys that didn't make it. The losses always drive me nuts no matter what the situation. Fingers crossed for full live arrival

Found one of the BRs dead this morning. She was the only one I was worried about. Looked a little slow when first unpacked, and 20 minutes after that, but looked fine all last evening. Found her under the ecoglow this morning. 12 of 16 now. I hope that's it...
