I have four hens that I just put chicken aprons on. Can anyone tell me if they will still take dust baths with the apron on? They love their baths!!! Thanks

I have no answer, but that's a great question.

But offer a guess that they will continue the dust baths.

Aprons will interfere with the purpose of the dust bath which is to try to get rid of parasites. Mites and lice can quickly get out of control underneath them so check them often and dust them as needed. I think I'd rather remove the rooster than put aprons on the hens, especially with summer heat still to come. Be careful they don't over heat wearing them as well.

Yes, that is a good point. I do hate to remove the rooster, he is a great protector and a very friendly fellow, but I may have no choice.

Some feather wearing is to be expected, so if isn't too bad they may be okay, especially if they are old enough to molt in the fall. When the heat of summer starts mating will slow down a bit. I personally haven't tried aprons so if you are thinking about it than certainly use them and see how it goes. With only 4 hens it might be manageable to check them occasionally.
