    Dear all,

One of my four backyard chickens just died, literally in my arms! I noticed when I went to give them an evening snack, that she was still sitting on the nest where I'd left her in the morning..... this did not seem normal to me. When I picked her up, she was lethargic. I was thinking of being egg bound but when I inserted a lubricated finger in her vent, it was empty. There was a yellow discharge around the vent though.
Does anyone have an idea what this might be? I'm a little worried that it may be infectious....

    Thanks for your advice!

    Karla

PS I tried to add a photo but I can't figure out how to do it (I have a MAC)

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss! [IMG] You can't add a picture because as a new member you need 10 posts before you can add photos.

    Was the yellow discharge foamy?

You could post in detail at "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread and see if they could tell you what she may have died from.

Thanks for your reply! No, it wasn't foamy. It was greenish yellow...

Hi CT Ken, I'm still new to the site and it's a bit overwhelming especially when you're looking for an instant cure for what's obviously a dying chicken ):
But it's good to know that thread is there! I will look it up.

I lost my beautiful golden Wyandotte yesterday Athena she was acting strange and tired. last two weeks but still eating and drinking and laying. Three years old.
Nothing looked abnormal could this just be her life span? So sad[IMG]
