Anastasia Mosquito Control District officials said a sentinel chicken has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Jacksonville has had several confirmed cases of the virus, including two confirmed deaths, but this is the first known case of the virus here this year.

The district keeps the chickens as an early detection system. The positive chicken was located on Joe Ashton Road, in the county's northwest.

Jacksonville so far has had 17 human cases of the virus, including two deaths.
