chicken tractors

A tractor is a portable coop, so that you can move it around the yard/property and give your chicken ranging ability while still protecting them from predators. Check out the coops section and you will see a lot of different tractor designs. They are fairly easy and cheap to build, too!

Looks good, gr8tfulmom, and very nearly embodies the concept in one fell swoop. Want a chicken tractor? Google is your best friend. Heres a few things I found when I googled 'chicken tractor.'

- video on you tube. Lots of them there, in fact...

http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/issues/2/2-1/Bill_Dreger.html
- from our friends at Backyard Poultry magazine

http://www.chickentractor.net/
- fancy, expensive pre-made model

http://www.energyfarms.net/node/1056
- This is simple

http://www.plamondon.com/build-chicken-coops-and-brooders.html
- No discussion of coops and tractors would be complete without a visit to Bob Plamondons site

Just spend some time googling and you'll come up with something that fits your skills and budget.

Here is a pic of a tractor/playpen I built for my girls for about $15.00. I just put a sheet or a piece of plywood over the top for shade for them, give them their waterer inside and let them play and have fun. It is not a permanent home by any means and there is no digger predator proofing so they are in it only when I am outside or able to watch them all the time from the house.
