This may be a dumb question, but I’m new to this adventure of backyard chickens and don’t actually have any yet but was just curious how everyone transported their hens home from wherever they purchased them at? I have a medium size dog kennel that could fit in my suv but didn’t know if it was smart to have them all together for the ride home or be best to transport in separate carriers? I do plan to buy them all at the same time whenever I get their coop and run setup.

It depends how old and how many chickens you're looking to get. Day old chicks-chicks that are weeks old can be transported in a cardboard box. The box size varies from how many chicks you have and how old they are. You want the box to be small enough that they're not sliding all over the place but big enough that they're not all piled on top of each other. Also make sure that they have some sort of bedding. Adult birds can be transported in boxes or small-medium kennels. I'd opt for putting 2-3 birds together in the same box. Chickens travel best when it's dark. Throwing a blanket/towel over kennels or closing boxes all the way (with a few air holes) will make the trip less stressful for them. They also won't need food and water if you're only traveling a short distance.
