One of my 3.5 month old chicks has a large, golf ball+ sized mass on one side of her chest. It's not solid, but feels filled with liquid. She seems alright otherwise. My first thought is an infection. If it is, it's not to late in the day for me to get some antibiotics from my vet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My advice (my quickest advice) would be to take the chick to the vet but it might be a reportable disease. Good luck.

Is it possible that she has eaten a lot and it is her crop you are feeling?

I almost ashamed to say you could be right. It's tremendous. Otherwise, she's fine.

[IMG] No need to be ashamed. I have done the same thing myself. They can really load up and look lopsided, then poof, the lump is gone and then you find a big stinky poo.
Just keep an eye on her to make sure that is what it truly is.

Welcome to BYC! Don't be ashamed, I think many of us had similar thoughts the first time we saw a full crop.

    Hi Kathy,

I'm also ashamed because I've had chickens for nearly 30 years, though I have new chicks now because all my other girls were sadly slaughtered by a mink that got into their house last winter. That was bad.
