Help! Chicken with eye swollen open and brown film. Looks like abscess behind the eye. Sprayed eye with antibiotic spray. Tried squeezing item or puss out but won’t bulge. Have her separated. What is this? What to do?

Suddenly came on, gradually getting worse. It doesn’t look like an injury.

It looks like the pressure is behind the eye and pushing it out. It can be a few things but all need to be seen by a vet.

Thank you for your reply. Yes it does look like it it is pushing from behind the eye, rather than other similar cases where the eye is swollen shut. What do you think the cause is?

Who knows what happened, but she needs to see a veterinarian or it'll just get worse. She could die from infection.

Looks like the eye is infected. If you can get clearer close up photos that may help.
The swelling may be pus which would need to be removed.

As for the cause - does she have a bad odor about her and any respiratory symptoms?
Common causes of eye infection would be respiratory disease, having debris in the eye or injury.

General care is to flush the eye, press out any pus/debris and apply an eye ointment like Terramycin 2-3 times a day.
