The door and the frame were out of alignment. The door was installed so that the top outside edge and the bottom inside edge were binding with the frame. I loosened the frame and got as close to square as possible, and then shaved the bottom edge of the door down. It works now, but will require additional shaving to keep the door from impacting the frame.

The unit appears to be quality materials, but the assembly.... well, there is just no excuse! It would have been better to send it unassembled, so at least I could have installed the door square with the frame. My guess is that once the first hole was drilled wrong, there was no making it right, so it was sent as is. There is no way anyone could look at this and call it
close to square. If it was turned on before shipping it would have been obvious there was a problem with the door binding.

So, $200 , an hour of my time, probably another half hour, and then it should operate well enough to install.

<below posted earlier>

The auto chicken door came in, and seems to have a problem. I first noticed that the door is in the frame crooked, the bottom of the door rest against the frame. I loosened the screw to square it, but the hole has no wiggle room.

I have run it through the motions with 3 different batteries, and it will only open about 3 inches. Could this be due to the binding
of the door against the frame?

I have gone through the trouble shooting several times with the same results. Some tinkering I don't mind, but to have to rebuild this thing is not what I had in mind, I could have built from scratch, (and saved some scratch!).

The reason I chose this one was the glowing reviews on here, and the out of the box plug and play, certainly not what I received.

Any input or ideas will be appreciated.

Hm. I read all kinds of these types of issues last spring prior to making my decision.

I went with the Addamotor from Discount Automation . I already had an opening and a door. Simple to add the tracking. (I say simple, DH installed it all on a saturday morning. I came out and he was done!)

I've never had an issue with my door. LOVE Love love it.

And the price was right too.
