Anybody else not have chickens/birds and want them so bad that they lose sleep, talk to themselves (outloud) about it, dream about it, and spend several hours a day figguring how to get a place to keep them and what to get when you do? Or is it just me?lol IF YOU HAVE CHICKEN FEVER THIS IS OUR THREAD. I went to catch barn pigeons earlier tonight (for the first time) to sell to a dealer but only caught one I thought about keeping it for a pet, but it's to crazy and wild so either going to be a release or snack tommarow havn't decided yet. I've had white rocks, mixed breed banties, mixed pigeons, a ringneck dove, Red jungle fowl, Bobwhite Quail, and Manchurian X Ringneck Pheasant, as well as a breeding pair of peach faced lovebirds, zebra finches, and a cockatiel. I'm going nuts with out birds to propogate, and I by far have the most luck with chickens.

You made that threat for ME ??

I am poultryless for the next five years because of Georges job. Cant have them in family housing. BUt it doesnt keep me from dreaming. I look at coops. Right now i am deceiding between a 4x6 horizon coop kit and a saltbox style 8x12 shed from Lowes. I plan what breeds i want on Ideals website and make up orders without sending them. 2 darkbrown layers, 2 brown, 2 white and 2 tinted egg layers. A playhouse style with1.5 dutch mille fleur and 2 silkie hens. I also want a pair of pilgrim geese and 3-4 female fawn and white crested runners and a male black runner. And i saved the best for last a group of 1.3 muscovies.
You gave me a good idea with some zebra finches or maybe some gouldians...

I'm an animal lover all around and always had as many animals as my parents would let me, I have alot of luck with chickens though. lol I do the same on Ideal and other hatcherys, I will probably design and build my own coops/pens as it will be cheaper or remodel and modify existing coops and outbuildings. I really like buff giant cochins, black tail white japanese, oegbs, and golden and lady amerst pheasant, mandrein and wood ducks and the list goes on forever, lol. Right now I have a beagle, a retired breeder female blue dumbo rat, and a pigeon for the moment lol.

Until my husband graduates from his nursing program we cannot have Chickens, as we live onsite at out job, so for now I get by, by incubating and hatching chicks then selling or giving them away. But I too am guilty of laying in bed trying to think of way to keep chickens where I am now, but I think my boss would kill me, lol.

I want some mandarins too. Gosh i hate how i have to wait so long . But what can i do. Atleast it gives me time to plan and save up. The bigger the coop the better... In the spring i will get my tools out and build a doghouse or two just so i can pretend to buils something for my future poultry. My dogs will love it ,hopefully . But for now its too cold outside to work in the backyard. Which means i am inside and decorate my kitchen and diningroom with rooster/chicken stuff. My obsession with roosters has already spilled into the bathroom. Wonder how many rooster decorations will fit into a 5x7 bathroom.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, I think my fiance thinks I need to go to the looney bin half the time. Lets keep it going this is good therepy, off to bed I will put more tomarrow.

I really have an addiction for exotics too so I'm really gonna be in trouble when I finnally get some land. I really want these siberian chipmunks a freind of mine has, a fan of goats and mini cattle and of corse want a pony for my kids and that list goes on forever too. lol

HOW BAD IS THIS?

I got a $500 lowes rebate gift card this summer when we bought cabinets for our house. We have not spent any of it for the last 7 months. I sent my dh to LOWES the other day with a large shopping list for wire and supplies to build another coop and bitty hutch.

At Christmas time, we built our first bitty hutch. At Thanksgiving we built our first Chicken coop. I have plans to EXPAND EXPAND and EXPAND - ALREADY. Our chicks are only 9 weeks old.

WHAT AM I THINKING?

We were suppose to buy a NEW FRONT DOOR with that gift card - - - but OH NO - - I can only think about those FUZZY BUTTS and getting more!

I am so addicted. There is a hatchery catalog beside my bed. I go out of my way to drive by the feed stores - - - just to see if they have baby chicks in yet.

IT IS SO SAD - NOT !

I know, right. All I can think about is all the animals (mostly outdoor aviary birds, like the ducks and pheasant, and chickens) I will have when I finally get some land 24/7. probably why I can't hold a job for long unless it has to do with animals, now thats getting sad. Hope I can make a living off my animals when I get it. But I think I'm going to try to start building custom cages to suppliment it.

wITH ME - IT IS NOT ABOUT MAKING A LIVING OR EVEN MAKING A PROFIT.

This obsession is about "learning" mew things and the joy they bring. It is a DESTRESSER for me.
There is nothing better than taking a couple of slices of bread out to the fuzzy butts and
watching them go CRAAAZZZZY over it. LOVE IT!

How can something get so excited over stale WHEAT bread?

Our rewards are intangible.

As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure we will be losing money on this chicken thing.
