Chickens and Turkeys

Can the two share the same pen and living area ?

Im asking because I just bought 20 more RIR and 2 Bronze turkeys for tday dinner until that day comes they will be sharing the same pen with my 7 Isable and 1 Rooster Cougburn.

Now just to name my new 20 chickens hmmmm

Turkey's will get blackhead if you keep them together. They may still get it if you have them on land that has had chickens on it in the past.

Blackhead is almost always fatal. The Turkeys can get it from the chickens. I went through this last summer with my RP turkey hen. I really didnt think I could save her. EVERY vet I talked to told me to put her down. I was not ready to give up. I dont reccomend putting chickens and turkeys together...its just not fair to the Turkeys..to risk it.

whats blackhead? Ive got 4 of my turkeys with my chickens until I can get there hoop house made(hopefully tomorrow). Then there going to free range Crystal

Unless you get them from a "clean" State, they also carry MS and MG and it will spread to your chickens.
