Chickens eating Styrofoam?

My chickens have a habit of finding Styrofoam coolers, containers, packaging, etc and eating it.

Is this really harmful or lethal?

Will it dissolve or pass through?

It doesn't seem to matter how much I pick it up. Dogs will take it into the yard and tear it into chunks and then the chickens eat it.

I would imagine it will pass through them but if you can prevent the styrofoam from being eaten by both dogs and chicks alike, it would be better... but I get it. I have dogs.

I have a White Rock hen who loves to eat styrofoam. She's eaten tons of it, and it's always passed through her. I know it's hard, but if possible it would be best to get as much of it as you can away from them, because I don't know the long term effects.
