Chickens Eating Too Much?

    I have 24 hens and they eat a 40lb sack of food every week. Does that seem right? They didn't go through this way food in the summer, fall, and early winter.

    How much an adult chicken eats per day is dependent on a lot of factors: breed, health, seasonal factors, social factors, free range vs. run confined, etc. Average is about 1/4 pound (4oz) per bird per day. You say you have 24 birds. At 1/4 pound a day, that 1.75 pounds per bird per week. That's 42 pounds per week. Remember, in the winter, they are burning more calories to stay warm.
